Bones
She held the bone in her hands. It was hot from roasting and gritty with salt. The salt granules were coarse and irritated her palms.
She pressed the bone to her lips. A sacred moment. A pause of wonder.
The bone had held up a creature. Had moved it across grasslands, kept it with its herd, and laid it down to sleep.
She held movement and life in her hands.
She breathed in, slurping the silken marrow into her mouth. Her mouth filled with saliva as the marrow coated her palate.
She smiled, the jelly-like substance smeared across her teeth, before she bent her head for more.
